A rain reduced yarding of 1381 cattle at Sullivan Livestock’s Gympie Sale on Monday saw the market dearer for all descriptions. Cattle were drawn from Gin Gin, Mt Perry, Childers Gayndah, Mundubbera, Booubyjan, Tansey, Goomeri, Brooweena, Woolooga, Eumundi, Kenilworth and all local areas.
Meatworks cattle met spirited competition with quality Brahman cows from R & B Sommerfield, Brahrock, Beaver Rock making 255c ($1551). Bongmuller Pastoral Co, Woolooga sold Brahman cows for 247c ($1386 & $1341). Garglen’s Brahman cows also made 247c Droughtmaster cows from S & J English, Glastonbury made 249c ($1337). Droughtmaster cross steers from N & L Brown, Tiaro made 285c ($1673). Heavy bulls sold to a top of 268c for a Charolais bull from Booubyjan to return $2507.
Heavy feeder steers were dearer with Droughtmaster cross steers from Greg Nuske, Kin Kin selling for 286c ($1302) and 283c ($1315 & $1286). Charbray cross steers from R & H Jones, Brooweena made 286c and 285c selling to a top of $1243. Droughtmaster steers from Greg & Kevin Birt, Scotchy Pocket made 309c to return $1219 & $1126, while the younger pens sold for 318c.
Charbray steers, 18 months from Maree Duncombe, Conondale made 325c. Quality Charbray steers from Alan and Jan Salmon, Widgee made 330c ($1078). Simmental cross steers from Brad and Melinda Murnane made 352c ($968). Droughtmaster steers from Les Howard, Aramara made 355c ($895). Wangella Pastoral Co, Kilkivan sold Brahman cross steers for 391c to average 387c.
Feeder heifers were in limited supply and quality and sold to a top of 280c but generally selling for 265c to 278c. Quality Droughtmaster heifers from Greg & Kevin Birt made 323c ($1054) and 319c ($887). Quality Angus cross heifers from Rockemer Grazing, Broweena made 313c ($831) and 309c ($750).
Simmental cross heifers from Brad & Melinda Murnane made 307c ($802). Droughtmaster heifers from AD & HM Pratt made 355c ($885). Grey Brahman heifers from Ron Kirk and family Yenda, Gayndah made 363c ($883) & 365c. Better quality weaner heifers generally sold from 280c to 317c. Wangella Pastoral Co, Kilkivan sold a good quality line of Brahman cross weaner heifers topping at 331c to average 311c.
Cows and calves sold to a top of $1525 for Droughtmaster cows with Brahman cross calves from JG & ME Fletcher, Cooroy. Brahman cross cows and calves from Rosedale sold for $1500.
