A total of 41 stud lots averaged $3616 and topped $6500, and ten commercial heifers averaged $1980 and topped at $2300 for a pen of five, 155 Embyro lots sold to an average of $496 and 454 semen lots averaged $100 at the Charnelle Charolais Eighth Annual Invitation sale.
Glenlea Arora 4th (P) sired by Rangan Park Rio Bravo D15 (RAN D15E) (P) with a white scurred heifer calf by Glenlea Honorable (P) R/F made the top money of $6500.
The equal second top price of $5000 was paid for Glenlea Carrol 71st (AI) (ET) (P), also sired by Rangan Park Rio Bravo D15, with a red factor polled heifer calf by Glenlea Honorable (P).
Both cow and calf units sold to Ross and Paula Warren, Elridge, Mothar Mt, Gympie.
They previously purchased three cows from Roderick Binny, Glenlea Charolais, Dorrigo at the 2017 New England Sale, New South Wales to run at their Gympie property and were impressed by how well the cows had adapted to their country and decided to purchase another two cows.
Andrew and Shaylee Cooper, Willowbank, west of Ipswich, purchased five stud lots on behalf of their daughters’ stud - CCJ’s Charolais to average $3850, five red factor polled commercial heifers to average $2300, and 19 embryo and semen lots.
Andrew runs commercial cattle with Brahman cows and Charolais bulls and on the stud side they have Charolais and Limousin on about 2500 acres. The Coopers have purchased at Charnelle invitational for the past few years.
New buyers for the sale PL Corfield, Charters Towers purchased four cow and calf units to average $3875, four select joined heifers from Ron Johnstone, Milford Pastoral, to average $3250 and were the biggest volume buyer for live lots.
Their top purchase was the equal second top price for a direct daughter of the full French Trevlac Opal lineage, Valley View Opal Blend (AI) (P) with a polled red factor bull calf at foot.
Alison Stephen Kajewski, Bettafield Charolais, Gindie purchased a total of seven females from Charnelle Charolais to average $3916 and four genetic packages. They have been supporting the female sale for three years, and the bull sale for about 18 years.
Wayne and Lesley Davis, Barambah-Dale Charolais, Murgon were bulk buyers for the genetic paying $9080 for a total of 14 units with 11 of the units from Fernvale Charolais.
Chris Norris, Elite Livestock, sold a total of 10 live lots and 45 genetic packages and was very pleased with the results.
After the huge success of last year’s fundraiser Graham Blanch organised another fundraiser for both Life Flight who will receive $1320 and the Royal Flying Doctor Service who will receive $1660.
Tom and Ann Wilkinson, Fernvale Charolais sold 59 lots of genetic packages for a total of $35,990 and then went on to donate $1000 to the Royal Flying Doctor Service as part of the above fundraiser.
Andrew Meara, Elders Stud Stock thanked all buyers for travelling the distance and noted there were buyers from as far away as Charters Towers in Northern Queensland, and interstate buyers were active from Western Australia, Victoria and New South Wales which made for a strong sale.
Co-coordinator Graham Blanch, Charnelle Charolais was very pleased with the overall sale and especially the genetic lots.
“With a very diverse range of genetics they very well accepted by the stud breeders and this made it an outstanding success,” Mr Blanch said.
Mr Blanch said it was great to see some good rain around and he understood it was patchy but did hope the west and south received their fair share.
