With some good rainfalls leading up to the sale, some vendors held cattle back, which resulted in a lighter yarding of 312 head at Stariha Auctions Laidley cattle sale on Thursday. The market was firm for all types, with cows and calves once again in demand.
Leslie and Valerie Mills, Laidley, sold a Hereford bull for $2010 and a 12 month old Hereford bull for $1200. McIntyre Family Trust, Thornton, sold a Droughtmaster bull for $1890. John and Donna Jackwitz, Grandchester, sold lines of medium Simmental cows for $940-$950. Tim Dow, Iredale, sold a line of mixed heifers, 12-14 months, for $990. Allan Bassingthwaighte, Mt Berryman, sold a line of Droughtmaster light feeders for $1085.
Tony Stariha, Mulgowie, sold 18 month old Droughtmaster steers for $1150. Fred and Lexi Scott, Veradilla, sold Limousin weaners, 12 months, with steers making $910-$1170 and heifers $1000. Des Poole, Veradilla, sold Limousin cows and calves for $1740 and a line of Limousin milk tooth steers for $1105. Ian Groves, Ravensbourne, sold 15 month old Angus steers for $1080.
Rodney Neumann, Mt Whitestone, sold Droughtmaster weaner steers, 7-8 months, for $865. Copleys Gully, Kilcoy, sold lines of mixed breed yearlings, with steers and heifers making $1000. Ron Gehrke, Summerholme, sold a line of Brahman cows and calves for $1330. Matthew Creamer, Woodbine, sold Hereford cows and calves for $1500.
