CATTLE producers in the Maranoa will get a glimpse of future livestock identification and management technologies when Ceres Tags CEO David Smith speaks at the upcoming Muckadilla TopCrop Field Day to be held at Maree Downs, Amby on March 16.
Ceres Tag Pty Ltd is developing a smart ear tag for livestock which delivers GPS positioning, movement and health monitoring.
It is underpinned by improved retention to the animal ear, energy harvesting and unique animal computer linked algorithms, switching on and off to enable it to be a lifetime management tool whether open pasture or feedlot.
Muckadilla TopCrop field day host Gavin Burey said while last year their group focused on cropping production, this year they wanted to open the program up to include high tech relevant to livestock.
“Most producers in the district are mixed farmers and need to keep up to date on what is happening across several industry fronts,” he said.
“Ceres tags and Clipex sheep handling equipment demonstration will give us all something different to consider on how we manage our livestock on farm.”
The Muckadilla TopCrop Field Day has been supported by the Maranoa Regional Council’s Community Grants program.
The full day program starts at 7:30am with breakfast at Maree Downs on the Warrego Highway, 53km west of Roma.
