ROCKHAMPTON’S Independent candidate Margaret Strelow has said she doesn’t expect to win the seat – despite calls she had a good chance.
At about 4pm Ms Strelow issued a statement on her Facebook page stating the following.
“It will be very difficult for me to win after the distribution of LNP preferences today. I expect the seat will go to Labor.
LNP swapped preferences with One Nation and about half of LNP voters followed the card.
This will wipe out my lead.
Thank you to all of you for your support and encouragement over the past few weeks.
Once the poll is formally declared I will proudly return to my role as Mayor.”
The ALP candidate, Barry O’Rourke, beat Ms Strelow in the pre-selection for Labor, where she originally planned to run.
