Queenslanders went to the ballot box today to vote for the next state government.

Compulsory preferential voting, as well as support for One Nation and Katter’s Australian Party, has set the stage for a close race.

A boundary redistribution earlier this year has increased the seats from 89 to 93. The incoming government will be the first to serve fixed four-year terms and upcoming elections will be held on the last Saturday of October.

The Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, and opposition leader, Tim Nicholls, have travelled across the state for the past month, campaigning on electricity prices, health care and vegetation management legislation.

Queensland Country Life and North Queensland Register will provide live updates throughout the night as the results come in. Keep visiting this page for rolling coverage and share your thoughts with us on Twitter using #bushvotes.
