KATTER’S Australian Party state leader and Mount Isa MP Robbie Katter has rearranged his schedule to attend a “politics in the pub” forum in Townsville this evening.
Four candidates in the upcoming state election, including Mr Katter, Hinchinbrook MP Andrew Cripps (LNP), Townsville MP Scott Stewart (ALP) and Thuringowa Greens candidate Mike Rubenach, will be on the panel.
Mr Stewart is taking the place of Mundingburra MP Coralee O’Rourke, who is unwell.
Other candidates who have confirmed their attendance include Mundingburra LNP candidate Matthew Derlagen, Townsville Independent candidate Lindy Collins, Townsville Greens candidate Lindy Collins and KAP Hinchinbrook candidate Nick Dametto.
AgForce is hosting the event, which will give political candidates a chance to outline their parties’ agricultural policies.
AgForce General President Grant Maudsley said agriculture was a vital pillar to Queensland’s economy and as such, Regional Queensland was shaping up to be a key battleground during the State election campaign.
He said the forum would provide an opportunity for all political parties to outline their plans to help drive the industry forward and encouraged residents with an interest in agriculture to attend.
Each panelist will make an opening statement of up to five minutes before questions are taken from the floor.
Former ABC Rural journalist Pete Lewis will MC the event, which will be held tonight at the Commonwealth Hotel, 46 Allen Street, South Townsville from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.
Queensland Country Life will be live-streaming the event. Check back here from 5.30pm to watch the forum live.
