THE Zappa family’s 1443 hectare (3566 acre) highly developed Dumaresq Valley property is on the market. Featuring a mix of irrigation, dry land cropping, grazing land and a 20ha vineyard, the property is being offered through an expressions of interest process with Colliers International, closing on December 7.
Located 20km from Bonshaw and 50km from Tenterfield, New Farm has a history of intensive cropping programs with production including melons, pumpkins and sweet corn. Up to 485ha can be irrigated from both river allocations and dam storage. The property is also currently carrying about 750 cattle.
The annual wine production is bottled and sold through the Zappa wines cellar door. Product is also sold to a local wine maker as well as being exported.
The country varies from about 400ha of deep, dark brown soils on gently sloping alluvial plains, through to low hills and steep ridges, and typically hard setting loams over clay on the harder traprocks towards the eastern boundary.
The 485ha of irrigation consists of six centre pivots pads plus 22 hydrants for spray and drip irrigation. There is about 160ha of dryland farming country predominately used for fodder production. There is 788ha of grazing country.
New Farm has 440 megalitre water licenses across A, B and supplementary categories. The property also has significant water storage capacity of about 300ML.
