I caught up with Phil Avery, Topex Longreach on Monday. He told me that some very good rain had been received over a fair area in the western side of Longreach and through the west to Winton. Falls of 50-100ml were recorded with quite a few falls around 75ml.
Phil said that anyone fortunate enough to get over 50ml will get a good start especially the way the season appears to be heading in the right direction. He said the market for store cattle has strengthened, while feeder cattle and fats have improved, although not as much as the store types.
Toowoomba agents yarded 787 head at this week’s sale. Selling agents, Elders and Landmark, reported that there was a good supply of yearling cattle and an increase in the number of grown cattle.
The market was quoted as firm to slightly dearer with restocker weaner steers selling to a top of 360c/kg whilst restocker yearling steers topped at 382c/kg.
Feeder steers were quoted as dearer with medium weights under 400kg averaging 302c/kg. Feeder heifers sold to 317c/kg to average 288c/kg. In the export lines, competition was strong with cows up 10 – 20c/kg in places topping at 250c/kg.
Roma combined agents have booked 2,552 steers, 2,385 heifers, 893 cows and 79 cows and calves for this week’s sale.
After last week’s top results and some patchy but useful falls over a large area, the market will no doubt be in vendor’s favour.
Ryan Dellit, Manager - Graham Henderson & Co, Dalby reported a combined yarding of 4740 at last week’s Dalby sale.
He reported the market for heavy export bullocks and steers as firm with all other classes selling at consistently strong rates on the previous sale.
He said that all lightweight, young cattle classes continued to demand high rates.
Anthony Hyland, GDL St George, reported on some very successful results on AuctionsPlus last week. The sale included:
Jason Goodland, Santa heifers – 270kg selling for 350c/kg on farm and the Angus cross portion 280kg selling for 348c/kg on farm ex Chinchilla.
JF Partnership, Boombah, St George selling Angus cross heifers 2-6 tooth PTIC to Texas Angus bulls for $1260.
Michael and Ann Rayner of St George sold 61 Shorthorn cross steers weighing 399kg for 305c/kg on farm.
On the lamb market, Anthony reported on the very good AuctionsPlus sale of a line from John and Michelle Brodie, Deepwater, St George who offered two lines of meatmaster cross wether lambs.
The first lot weighing 39kg returning $112.50 on farm and the second line weighing 29.8kg selling for $88.50 on farm, both lots heading to the Darling Downs to restockers for finishing.
