DALBY has a significantly improved community function centre in its sights following a $300,000 election promise from the LNP.
Surprisingly Dalby is one Queensland town that has never had a town hall or a cultural centre. The ability of the town to host larger scale events was further compromised since the closure of the Dalby RSL Club in early 2014.
The funding will be used to install air conditioning and further upgrade the main hall at the Dalby Showgrounds.
Member for Warrego, Ann Leahy, said the improvements would ensure the hall can be used as a function centre for local groups and further enhance the showgrounds.
“Not only will this project bring social benefits to the community, it will provide local jobs,” Ms Leahy said.
“The LNP’s Dalby Showgrounds upgrade is all part of our plan to Build a Better Queensland by building a better Warrego.”
Western Downs Mayor Paul McVeigh said it seemed Dalby had been always been considered both too big and too small to qualify for funding to build a dedicated town hall or multi-purpose cultural centre.
“We would love to have larger multi-purpose function centre but upgrading this hall will be a significant improvement,” Cr McVeigh said.
