Drone technology has a come a long way in a short space of time since the tech was first made available for commercial use according to Garricks Camera House Rockhampton owner Dale Winter.
Dale said the technology has led him to gaining clientele from across the agricultural sector due to the time-saving efficiencies drones can provide them with.
“The DJI drone range is the most popular choice worldwide with customers, and their Phantom 4 range is proving to be especially sought after in the farming community,” he said.
“Farmers are finding them useful for checking lick and water levels, pump readings and fence lines, especially in wet times when they can’t get out on horses or quad bikes.
“They can travel at speeds of up to 80km/h at a range of up to seven kilometres and as they’re airborne they don’t need to negotiate rough terrain, which saves farmers time and money.”
He said for graziers, drones are rapidly becoming a popular option for cattle mustering operations.
“From all accounts, cattle react well to drone mustering, as you can use them to can stir up dust and move them quite successfully. They also have crash avoidance so if you’re working with them in heavily wooded areas it will avoid obstacles such as tree trunks and low-hanging branches automatically.
“I had one grazier tell me that when the floods hit in Roma last year, the drone he had saved him hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of cattle that were in danger of drowning.
“With the drone he was able to guide them to high ground a few kilometres away from the homestead.”
He said to help assist their customers in the local agricultural community, Garrick’s offers personalised service for them, which includes helping with initial setup of the drones they purchase, and post-sale support if any problems arise.
“We also offer a two year warranty and $100,000 in third party insurance in case of damage.”
Dale said to look out for the Garricks Camera House Rockhampton site during Beef Australia 2018 and the various agricultural show across Western Queensland the team will be attending next year to help raise awareness for the drone technology the store has available.
