The St Joseph’s Nudgee College Rowing program will next month celebrate its 20th birthday with a fantastic gala dinner to celebrate those that have helped take the program from humble beginnings to the pinnacle of Queensland schoolboy sport.
Fittingly, the 20 year anniversary coincides with the 100th anniversary of Greater Public Schools (GPS) rowing, marking the Nudgee program’s meteoric rise through the ranks of well-established competitors.
In 1998, Nudgee College rowing was formed with 20 students, six coaches and a handful of parents, along with old boats borrowed from rival schools.
Today, Nudgee Rowing boasts more than 250 athletes, nearly a dozen Australian representatives and an impressive haul of titles including the last five consecutive prestigious Head of the River championships.
Shannon Carmody, president of the Nudgee Rowing Parent Support Group, said the gala dinner was to honour the athletes, coaches, parents and volunteers alike that have helped take the program to such incredible heights in such a short period of time.
“The whole purpose of the gala dinner is to celebrate what Nudgee Rowing has achieved over the last 20 years and to recognise those who have contributed so much,” Ms Carmody said.
The Nudgee College Rowing gala dinner will be held at the Royal International Convention Centre on October 14, with tickets available until September 28. For more information visit www.nudgee.com.
