THE Clermont Beef Bull Sale was a very well-attended affair in Clermont on Tuesday, and saw a 100 per cent clearance rate for the 87 bulls offered.
With a gross of $567,500, the sale topped at $24,000 for Palmal 7349, offered by David and Julie McCamley, Palmal, Dingo.
Mr and Mrs McCamley also offered the second top priced bull, Palmal 7375, who sold for $22,000 to Riverside Pastoral Company, Nebo.
The multi-vendor sale saw bulls offered from four Central Queensland studs, with Palmal, Viva, Wallace, and 2AM bulls on offer.
Top priced bull Palmal 7349, a horned bull of 24 months of age, impressed in the books with an EMA of 131sq cm, a weight of 734kg, and a scrotal circumference of 38cm.
Second top priced bull, Palmal 7375 was also a horned bull, and the 24-month-old had a P8 of 12mm, a weight of 820kg, and an EMA of 136sq cm.
Palmal 7375 was sold to Allan Williams, Riverside Pastoral, Nebo, for $22,000.
Mr Williams went home with three bulls grossing $43,500 for an average $14,500.
The volume buyer of the sale was Doug Saal, Claraville Station, Croydon, who went home with 12 bulls.
The 12 bulls grossed $42,500 for an average of $3541.
Also buying big was Andrew and Lucille Angel, Mossvale, Bowen.
The Angel family left the sale with eight bulls grossing $29,500 for an average of $3687.
Spending big was Michael Borg, Calveston Station, Clermont, who purchased four bulls for a gross of $44,500 for an average of $11,125.
Included in that was lot 19, 2AM 5473M, a horned bull of 23 months weighing 714kg with an EMA of 129sq cm which Mr Borg paid $16,000 for.
Also selling for $16,000 was 2AM 5369M, a horned bull of 738kg which sold to fellow vendor Wallace Cattle Co, Clarke Creek.
Top priced bull purchaser Anna McCamley said Palmal 7349 was a clear winner for their stud herd.
“We felt he had the best combination of bone, muscling and weight for age combined with fertility traits in the sale,” she said.
The family will be mating 800 stud breeders this year, and 1200 commercial breeders.
She said for their stud, the sale was fantastic.
“We really appreciate everyone’s support, right through the sale there was a fantastic lineup of bull and for our 2AM bulls we are really happy with how they sold,” she said.
“Right from the few stud buyers to the commercial buyers, we really appreciate everyone.”
Top priced bull vendor Julie McCamley said she was very pleased with the result for their own stud, and the sale as a whole.
“100 per cent clearance is fantastic, and we are really appreciative of all the local support,” she said.
Selling both the top and second top priced bulls in the multi-vendor sale was the icing on the cake for Mr and Mrs McCamley.
“We’re very, very happy,” she said.
“We knew he (Palmal 7349) was good, but both the top and second top we had had a fair bit of interest in, we knew they were quality animals, and we hoped they’d sell well – which they did.”
The McCamley’s will be selling at Brahman Week as well, but Mrs McCamley said they liked to bring both commercial and stud-quality bulls to the Clermont sale.
“We have a lot of clients out here as well, and if you bring quality animals they will sell,” she said.
