A MIX of long-term and first-time buyers provided solid competition at Bob and Toby Nixon’s 22nd annual Wallan Creek Hereford bull sale, Lilydale, Drillham last Tuesday.
Sustained demand pushed prices to $22,000 with selling agents Elders and GDL clearing 40 bulls for a $7400 average which represented a clearance rate of 74 per cent.
Wallan Creek co-principal Toby Nixon said he appreciated the support from his valued clients and some new buyers which were most welcomed and considering the season they couldn’t be happier with the sale result.
Typical of the long-standing clients was John Galwey, Stuarts Creek Pastoral Company, Stuarts Creek, Roma who bid the $22,000 top money for Wallan Creek Victory Blend L200, a 25-month-old, 970kg son of Wallan Creek Victory Blend G019 with great skin and hair type.
Mr Galwey said he had used the Victory Blend genetics before and are proven genetics.
“Wallan Creek Victory Blend L200 is a horn bull with a wonderful temperament, good muscle pattern, nice outreach (neck extension) and has a wonderful presence about him,” said Mr Galwey.
Tony Pearce, TopX, Wandoan and Taroom accompanied Ken and Jackie Knudsen, Kilbeggan, Chinchilla and helped them select three exceptional bulls for a $9000 average.
The Knudsens paid up to $12,000 for Wallan Creek Hurricane L024, a well-balanced son of Eathorpe Hurricane H7 with a big, square back end and performance to match. W C Hurricane L024 will go into their herd of pure Dangarfield-blood commercial Santa Gertrudis breeders.
Mr Pearce was also advising on Neil and Barchley Kehl’s selections and ended up with four quality bulls for a $7125 average paying up to $11,000 for Wallan Creek Major L184 to use over their pure Hereford commercial cows running on Marklands, Taroom.
One of the volume buyers was Alan Hewitt, Charvel Grazing Company, Theodore with half-a-dozen bulls for a $5083 average.
