THE Ayr Charolais Bull Sale was held on property at Mungabunda, Moura, on Monday – and saw 102 bulls sell for an average of $7118.
Two bulls sold for $16,000 to top the sale.
Lot eight, Ayr Egypt’s Hecter, was first to sell for $16,000, and sold to Chas Nobbs, Cordelia, Moura.
Hecter, a 26-month-old bull weighing 974kg boasted an EMA of 153sq cm, and a scrotal circumference of 43cm.
Also selling for $16,000 was lot 21, Ary RE’s Anchor, who sold over the phone to Bryce Godfrey, Lanifee, Winton.
Anchor tipped the scales at 976kg, with an EMA of 148sq cm, and a scrotal circumference of 43cm at 21 months of age.
The second top priced bull was lot 19, Ayr Mintee’s Elazar, a 23-month-old bull weighing 948kg with an EMA of 143sq cm who also sold to Chas Nobbs, for $14,000.
The volume buyer of the sale was A and L Parker, Clare Station, Jericho, who went home with eight bulls in tow grossing $48,000 for an average of $6000.
Dillon Scott, Rosetta Grazing, Yacamunda, Collinsville, was close behind with seven bulls.
Mr Scott’s purchases grossed $56,500 for an average of $8071.
In his pen of bulls was lot 30, Ayr Netto’s Monza 2nd, an 18-month-old bull weighing 876kg which Mr Scott purchased for $12,000.
Each going home with six bulls apiece were the Lake Elphinstone partnership, Lake Elphinstone, Nebo, and Mulgrave Grazing, Barcaldine.
The Lake Elphinstone partnership’s purchases grossed $43,500 for an average of $7250.
Mulgrave Grazing’s purchases also grossed $43,500 for an average of $7250.
Each going home with five bulls each was the Hughes family, Malarga Grazing, Brooweena, Lisa McKinlay, Melaleuca, Gogango, Max McCabe, Casino, and the Oakburn partnership, Casino.
The Hughes family’s lots grossed $41,000 for an average of $8200, Ms McKinlay’s grossed $39,000 for an average of $7800, Mr McCabe’s $30,500 for an average of $6100, and Oakburn’s grossed $26,500 for an average $5300.
Mr Nobbs said his $16,000 purchase, which came just days after Mr Nobbs sold one of his own bulls for the top price of $16,000 at the Moura Nobbs Families Bull Sale, was an easy choice.
“I just like his scale, his thickness, he’s just a good all-round bull,” he said.
Mr Nobbs said he hoped Hecter would make a great addition to the Cordelia Charbray stud herd.
Ayr Charolais principal David Case said the sale was by far his best yet.
“It was the best ever sale we’ve ever had – we are very happy with it,” he said.
The on-property sale showed signs of the season – with little grass, and a lot of dust.
Mr Case said the family had seen a very average year.
“It’s a great result for the dry weather,” he said.
“The 99 per cent clearance is just fantastic.”
With a strong emphasis on uniformity – Mr Case said feedback from buyers at the sale was fantastic.
“We’ve just been concentrating on putting a strong, even line of bulls together,” he said.
Lots 21 and eight were his own clear picks before the sale, but Mr Case said he was expecting lot 21 to sell for more than the $16,000.
“I was hoping 21 would take the roof off… but I am very happy with the top prices,” he said.
“But the average was just fantastic, and we had a lot of repeat buyers so it’s good to see them come back.”
