THE Drillham-based Devon Court Hereford stud wound back the clock almost two decades with numerous ‘traditional’ buyers turning out to compete on 26 bulls which averaged $5846 at their annual sale last Tuesday.
Devon Court principal Tom Nixon said it was the stud’s first on-property bull sale in almost 20 years and it was great to see so many ‘old’ clients again in the market for his bulls.
“It was a good start for my first sale and we now have established a platform to build on in the future,” said Mr Nixon.
It was fitting ‘traditional’ clients like Ian and Anne Galloway, Cootharaba Hereford stud, Duarran, Roma bid the $13,000 top money for Devon Court Advance L64, a 21-month-old son of Injemira Advance C085 weighing 834kg with 5.3 percent IMF and a 40 scrotal circumference.
Mr Galloway said Devon Court Advance L64 was a long-bodied, outstanding young calf with plenty of muscle, softness and growth performance with a huge eye muscle area of 129cms, considering his tender age.
Other long-standing clients Matt and Trish Doak, Emohruo, Bundarra NSW bid the $12,000 second best money for Devon Court Advance L88, another impressive son of Injemira Advance C085 which was also the Mr Devon Court Trophy winner – voted most popular people’s choice.
Family member David Nixon, Mooloolaba, was on hand to present the Mr Devon Court Trophy to the Doaks.
The Doak family selected D C Advance L88 bull for his excellent carcase data, skin type and high growth rates in the top 1 per cent for 600 day.
The Wondolin Pastoral Company, Wondolin, Wallumbilla put a base in the market after buying three bulls at $4000.
