Three months after the announcement in the Queen’s Birthday honours list, Bruce Scott has received his Medal (OAM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia.
The investiture ceremony took place at Government House in Brisbane on Friday, with tributes flowing in for Bruce, the mayor of the Barcoo shire, on social media.
Bruce received the honour for service to local government and his community, with a particular focus on his work on telecommunications for remote Queenslanders.
The former Member for Gregory, Vaughan Johnson was among those congratulating Bruce, commenting that both he and his wife Maureen had touched so many lives with goodness, kindness and compassion.
“Enjoy this occasion as this is a big thank you from so many appreciative people,” he said.
It was a similar theme from Andrew Goodman: “All those decades of hard and often thankless work now being thanked”.
