Repeat buyers provided a good base to this year’s Warren Point Poll Hereford bull sale at Mitchell.
A total of 35 bulls sold out of 51 head offered with a clearance rate of 69 per cent and a sale price average of $4071 was achieved during the auction.
The Struss family, Havelock, Mitchell purchased the top price bull for $7500, Warren Point Lenin L378 (P), with the family purchasing bulls at every Warren Point Poll Hereford sale since the begin.
The Warren Point Lenin L378 bull was sired by Warren Point Preston G298 (P) and weighted 778 kilograms at 24-month-old with 14 millimetres of fat on the rump and 10 millimetres of fat on the rib, plus an Eye Muscle Area of 102 centimetres squared.
Bim Struss said the Lenin L378 sire had the highest Estimated Breeding Values in the sale draft of Poll Herefords this year.
“The bull will be put to work in our commercial cattle herd near Mitchell,” Mr Struss said.
A second top price of $6,000 was reached by Warren Point Elgin L184 (P) bull and was also purchased by Bim and Susan Struss, JJ7 Partnership, Havelock, Mitchell.
The Warren Point Elgin L184 bull was by Warren Point Elgin F57 (P) and weighed in at 764 kilograms at 25-months-old with 13 millimetres of fat on the rump and eight millimetres of fat on the rib plus an Eye Muscle Area of 106 centimetres squared.
Volume buyer for sale was the Freeman family, Meeleebee Downs, Wallumbilla who bought six bulls including Warren Point Elgin L067 (P) for $5500.
The 32-month-old sire weighed 888 kilograms with 16 millimetres of fat on the rump and 10 millimetres of fat on the rib, plus an Eye Muscle Area of 121cm sq.
