A mixed quality yarding of 1438 cattle at Sullivan Livestock’s Gympie sale on September 11 saw the market remain firm to dearer for quality while plainer lines were firm to slightly cheaper.
Heavy feeder steers topped at $2.77 for Senepol cross steers from A&T Peterson, Scotchy Pocket to return $1118. Brahman cross steers from W&S McLachlan made $2.67 ($1220, $1215). Murray Grey cross steers from R&J Watson, Maroochy River made $2.81 ($1036). Limousin cross steers from R&R Zerner, Dagun made $2.99 ($918). Weaner Brangus steers from T&R Roche, Glastonbury sold for $3.53 to return $924. Agnesvale Pastoral, Childers sold Droughtmaster steers for $3.43 ($822). Droughtmaster steers from Col and Joyce Blankensee, Kandanga made $3.31 ($848 & $807) Good quality lines of weaners generally sold from $3.15 to $3.53 with the next run selling from $2.85 to $3.12.
No quality feeder heifers were yarded. Weaner heifers topped at $2.95 for Droughtmaster cross heifers from Shepherd and Brunjes, Calico Creek to return $678. Fitz and Co, Kilkivan sold Droughtmaster heifers for $2.83 ($571 & $559). Good conditioned vealer heifers generally sold from $2.70 to $2.88 while store types sold from $2.50 to $2.83.
