Solid commercial buyer support underpinned this year’s Roma Poll Hereford Bull Sale on Monday.
A top price came late during the sale with Rod Alexander and family, Trefoil Park, Goonburra bull Lot 49 Trefoil Park Baird L9 (AI) (P) reaching $11,000.
The 27-month-old bull sold to Greg Joliffe, Joliffe Pastoral Co, Mitchell and weighed in at 850 kilograms with 11 millimetres of fat on the rump and 10 millimetres of fat on the rib with an Eye Muscle Area of 123 centimetres squared.
“This Baird L9 bull is a big growthy, later maturing bull suitable for producing bullocks,” Mr Alexander said.
The top priced sire was by Days Calibre G74 (P) bull out of Trefoil Park Blush B21 (AI) (P) cow.
The bull will now go to work in the Joliffe family’s commercial cattle herd near Mitchell.
A total of 23 bid cards were registered for the Roma Poll Hereford bull sale.
A second top price of $10,500 was reached during the sale by Lot 25 Little Trefoil Kaiser L4 (AI) (P) and was bought by Graham Winks, Bollon.
The 27-month-old bull was sired by Otapawa Spark 3060 (P) and weighed a total of 850 kilograms with 12 millimetres of fat on the rump and 12 millimetres of fat on the rib with an Eye Muscle Area of 129 centimetres squared.
A third top price of $10,000 occurred twice during the sale. Lot 8 Binara Lenard L034 (P) bull was the first to reach $10,000 and was sired by Bowen Diamantina G330 (P).
The Leonard bull was bought by Teapiti Pastoral Co, Goondiwindi and weighed 880 kilograms at 27-months-old with 15 millimetres of fat on the rump and 13 millimetres of fat on the rib, plus an Eye Muscle Area of 134 centimetres squared.
The second $10,000 bull was Lot 10 Binara Lex L020.
