Blue skies and a positive atmosphere were front and centre when the gates opened for the 2017 Beaudesert Show on Friday.
Beaudesert Show Society president Ian Harrison said perfect weather and the spirit of camaradarie that Beaudesert does best contributed to the outstanding success of this year’s event.
“The show is a great opportunity to showcase the area, as well as our excellent cattle, horses, dogs and local produce,” he said.
“Also, for a lot of local groups the Beaudesert Show is their major fundraising event of the year.”
Visitors from near and far were treated to free daytime entertainment, a wide range of displays and a chance for the kids to get up close and personal with baby animals.
A wide variety of food stalls provided options for snacks, including pizza, Turkish kebabs, Asian street food, churros and pavlova.
As night fell, families began to rug up for the evening entertainment, with their children gleefully clutching show bags.
The evening program included strong men, stockhorses, cowboy, whip cracking and woodchopping displays.
The opening ceremony featured an astounding performance of the Australian national anthem from local songstress Jessica Holbrook, who is in year 12 at Beaudesert State High School and has already recorded an album.
Also in attendance for the official opening was show president Ian Harrison, Scenic Rim mayor Greg Christensen, Wright MP Scott Buchholz and Beaudesert MP Jon Krause.
Miss Beaudesert Showgirl 2017 Georgina Bayly and runner up Mikaella Muchow were on hand to greet visitors and ensure everyone was enjoying the show.
The Young Farmer Challenge was a treat for all, showcasing the agricultural skills of our local farming youth.
The evening fireworks were a crowd favourite, with thousands of coloured lights decorating the night sky.
