Westech Field Days Association Incorporated is holding its 12th triennial event next month on Tuesday, September 12 and Wednesday, September 13.
The field days which are run almost entirely by a dedicated group of volunteers, will be held once again at the Barcaldine Showgrounds.
Whites Rural P/L are our new Prestige Partner and major sponsors include Barcaldine Regional Council, Coopers Animal Health, Elders, RAPAD, QCL, GBA, South Western Wireless, NuTank, Hercules Loaders and Michael Horman Transport as well as numerous Silver and Bronze Sponsors. We thank them all for their support.
The 2017 Westech Field Days will cater for a diverse range of interests, from innovation and technology, machinery and fencing to schools promotion and a gardening expo (including the Barcaldine Regional Council Garden Competition winners’ presentation).
There will be a ram sale held under the auspices of QMSSA, other rams will also be available for sale, and there will be a Young Judges competition for sheep.
Russell Gray from SGB(A)Ass. will be holding a bull selection demonstration on Tuesday morning and afternoon, and again Wednesday morning, and the Young Judges Competition for cattle will be held on Tuesday morning after the bull selection demonstration.
With continuing poor seasons and lack of breeder numbers there will not be a Twilight Bull Sale, though evening entertainment, barbecue and bar will still be held at the saleyards as usual.
Longreach Pastoral College’s John Arnold will be holding a horsemanship clinic in the campdraft arena on both days.
This is a good opportunity to thank our sponsors and exhibitors, and our local community organisations (including those catering, manning the gates etc) who help to make our field days such a success.
Most of all I would like to thank the fantastic group of volunteers who give up so much of their time and energy before and during every field days. In particular, I would like to thank our secretary Sally Newton and our joint coordinators, Mary Lynch and Ken Wilson.
We look forward to welcoming everyone to our 2017 Westech Field Days, and I hope you all enjoy the days as much as we enjoy bringing them to you.
Andrew Cowper, President, Westech Field Days Assoc. Inc.
