An electric atmosphere is set to jolt through visitors to Bulloo Park on September 9 – 10 when the Quilpie Show, Rodeo and Gymkhana takes place.
Quilpie Show and Rodeo committee president Bill Watts said the weekend will feature a veritable smorgasboard of entertainment.
“We’ll have The Crackup Sisters bringing their best country comedy, slapstick acrobatics, whip cracking and family antics to the show this year,” he said.
“And guests can also learn a thing or two during the Luke’s Reptile Kingdom venomous snake show, hold a baby crocodile or get wrapped up with a very friendly python.”
The Scotty Mack Band will be cranking up the excitement factor at the show by holding lives performances to get you in the dancing mood at 1pm and 4pm.
Bill said each year the community chooses a show theme, and to tie in with the Quilpie centenary celebrations, this years will be 100 Years: Tell a Story.
“We’ll have displays from local businesses, schools, residents and interpreting this theme with displays, poetry, artwork and more.
“We’ve also brought back some of the older competitions to the pavilion to help celebrate the centenary theme.”
He said the most anticipated event at the Quilpie Show is the QRA affiliated Wayne Allen Memorial Open Bull Ride which begins at 6pm.
“The riders taking part will have their abilities truly tested as eight of the bulls drafted for the event are from the PBR circuit. But with $3000 to be won over two rounds in addition to the buckle we’re expecting to have a high quality selection of rider competing.”
“For less experienced riders we’ll also be holding a Novice Bull Ride on the night with $800 up for grabs over two rounds of competition.”
During the rodeo intermission guests will be treated to one of the biggest and best fireworks displays in the south-west.
The fun and excitement will continue on the Sunday with the motorbike gymkhana beginning at 9am.
Bill said there has been “bucketloads” of interest on social media surrounding the event, which is returning bigger and better after proving to be a great success last year.
“The gymkhana’s Open Double Barrel event is sure to create a swell of nominations and excitement with $1000 in prize money to be won.”
Competitors from age six and up will be catered for in different sections, with kids novelty events also to be held throughout the day.
