The Australian Lowlines were the largest ring at the Royal Queensland Show’s small cattle breed judging last Friday with almost 50 head of quality stud animals paraded during the competition.
It took some deliberation by judges Julie Pocock-Iseppi and Caitlin Cox, but they delivered the small cattle Interbreed Champion bull award, presented by Lendlease, to the Australian Lowline junior champion and grand champion bull called Pittsworth Model.
The stylish sire was exhibited by Pittsworth State High School and was sired by Elle Kay Gunargarang bull out of Allambie Cameron Australian Lowline cow.
The 11-month-old young bull, Pittsworth Model, had beaten the Australian Lowline senior champion bull, Lik Lik Legend, during the Southern Queensland Lowline Promotion Group’s Grand Champion Bull competition to enter the interbreed judging ring.
Australian Lowline stud cattle judge Julie Pocock-Iseppi said the junior Pittsworth Model bull had an exceptional early maturing growth pattern.
“It’s clearly the size of this bull for his age that makes him standout and is a real positive attribute for a stud sire,” she said.
The small cattle Interbreed Champion cow or heifer, sponsored by Lendlease, went to another junior champion with Ausline junior champion female called Jinghi Gully Jipsey Rose, sired by Dunlouise Jipsey Earl and out of Kobblevale Skye cow, taking out the top honour.
The Black coloured Jinghi Gully Jipsey Rose heifer, owned by Phil Labrie, was placed over the senior champion Ausline cow or heifer Longyard Rozonda, sired by Elle Kay Gunargarang out of Longyard Aaliya (AI) cow and owned by Robert and Bre Labrie, during the breed’s judging at Royal Queensland Show last Friday.
The Ausline judge, Caitlin Cox, said Jinghi Gully Jipsey Rose heifer was a great example of the quality females in the Ausline breed.
“She is a beautiful, young heifer who has a big future ahead of her in the Ausline stud stock industry,” Ms Cox said.
“I’m sure this heifer will go on to be a great Ausline cow as she exhibits plenty of the important maternal traits.”
The Australian Lowline breed continued to hold the Interbreed Champion bull title this year, while the Dexter breed lost the Royal Queensland Show Interbreed Champion cow or heifer award from 2016 to the Auslines.
Exhibited breeds this year were Ausline, Australian Lowline, Dexter, Minature Galloways/Belted Galloways.
