Following on from the great success that the Santa Gertrudis breed has enjoyed at the recent RNA and major feedlot trials this year, the breed will again feature as the lead numbers at this year’s Spring Classic Sale at the Beef Expo on Thursday, August 31 at the Toowoomba Showgrounds.
“This year’s catalogue features the best line-up for many years and the pick of the draft from nine vendors,” Big S Group chairman Glenn Holt said.
Mr Holt said three exciting new vendors had joined the sale and even though numbers were down, the quality was higher.
“We’ve got three new vendors selling at this year’s sale that are well known and well respected studs that have been in the breed for many years,” he said.
“This year they are selling their entire draft at the Big S Sale and we’re very excited to have these studs involved.”
The 60 bulls on offer is the best line-up we’ve had for my years, and 57 out of 60 bulls are classified S, which means they have been inspected by breed classifiers and branded with the S brand.
Another attraction in the sale this year is six quality stud females, most of which are PTIC.
“The quality control this year has been stronger and last year the general comment after the sale circuit was finished was that we were one of the best value, if not the best value, buying on the circuit,” he said.
“This is the 43rd annual Big S sale and we’ve stuck with it and built on it. We have a very committed group of stud masters with good reputations and a number of repeat buyers that are very successful breeders.”
He said the majority of the entries were polls, with a large diversity of genetics that would attract stud and commercial buyers .All bulls are blooded to assist buyers from the tick areas as well as semen tested and vet checked.
Studs selling at this year’s sale include Baroda, Calonbah,Celamba, Hallcraig, Linlands, Rosehill, Rosevale Park, Santalands and Valleyview.
Free entry to the sale complex is available via gate six, adjacent to the carpark.
This year’s event would feature a pre-sale welcome and bull walk on August 30 from 4pm with drinks and nibblies provided by Anipro. All Santa enthusiasts are welcome.
