Gavin and Kirrily Iseppi brought four cows to centre ring at Brisbane and returned home with three ribbons, while a bull they sold at the breed’s feature sale last year was the major winner on the male side of the Red Angus judging.
The Dalby breeder is upfront about seeking RNA ribbons to add credence to the sale qualities of his cattle at the Power of Red sale, which was delivered in spades this year.
GK Red Dina, out of a Mulberry cow, well-known as a Brisbane and Sydney interbreed winner, won judge Hayden Green’s nod as the senior and grand champion female, while GK Red Diamond Mist and GK ACM Red Lassie were junior champion heifer and reserve.
Gavin described GK Red Dina as the “complete package”, as far as capacity, volume and udder went, topped off by having a calf of foot
Allora’s Stephen Hayward and Kellie Smith bought GK Red 53 Hi Star 10 months ago at the Power of Red sale with a plan to put him with their cows this October, and so prepared him for Brisbane in the meantime.
It's a breed with a lot to offer a variety of environments
- Judge Hayden Green
The 22-month-old’s extra bone and muscle impressed both Stephen and the judge, who awarded him the champion bull and then grand champion bull ribbons.
He topped the scales at an impressive 1054kg.
Hi Star’s sire had won the interbreed championship three years earlier, which caught Steve’s eye.
Breaking the mould was junior champion bull, Black Diamond Red Madador, exhibited by Christie and Andrew Kennedy, based at Cowra in New South Wales.
Judge Hayden Green said the maternal qualities of the breed had shone out in the competition.
