WEIGHING in at a whopping 1330kg, grand champion Devon bull Vix Lodestone, exhibited by Vic Edwards, Vix Stock Breeding, Mullaley, NSW was a sight to behold last Friday at the Ekka.
Mr Edwards said he was very pleased with the results, adding it was great to see maternal brothers Vix Lodestone and Vix Krypton awarded senior champion and reserve respectively.
“He (Lodestone) is already heavier for weight for age than his brother so we’re keen to see where he goes from here,” Mr Edwards said.
“Their dam Vix Audrey E23 was grand champion at the Sydney Royal in 2015 and we had great hope to come here and pick something up but you never know!”
Both bulls will go on to be offered at the Edwards’ upcoming sale with the stud retaining semen shares.
With Devon classes entered entirely by New South Wales breeders judge Anthony Flint, Gladfield said the line-up of cattle was a credit to the breeders. “It’s great to see so many people travelling to attend this annual event,” Mr Flint said.
Senior champion female Ashwood Snowbell, exhibited by Malcolm Wood, Ashwood Devons, Bulahdelah went on to be awarded grand champion female.
Mr Flint said he admired her width and depth and her overall strength throughout.
“There’s been a lovely line-up of females presented here today and it certainly wasn’t an easy decision,” he said.
“She has a lot of width from hip to pin and she oozes that femininity and structural correctness that we’re looking for.”
