The rodeo arena is set and the grounds are in tip-top shape as St Brendan’s College, Yeppoon gets set for its annual rodeo on Saturday, September 2 and the college is calling on families and rodeo enthusiasts to head down to catch all the thrills and spills.
Now in its 22nd year, the St Brendan’s College Central Isuzu Rodeo will be a great family day out with action starting at 10am with the schoolboy events including the Inter-School Rodeo Challenge and Trans-Tasman Rodeo Final and a full APRA-Affiliated Rodeo Program to follow from 5.45pm.
While belt buckles and cowboy hats might seem out of place at the beach, St Brendan’s College strong rural history was the impetus for the event’s origins, offering a chance for rural students to hone their bull riding skills and for regional families to make a family weekend visit for all the rodeo action.
Avid rodeo riders will compete in the open bull ride, team roping, saddle bronc, ladies barrel racing, ladies breakaway or steer wrestling, with event organisers expecting more than 300 competitors.
Tickets are available at the gate at a cost of $10 per adult and with those under 16 entering for free.
The event is now organised as a major fundraiser by the St Brendan’s College P&F, and has contributed to significant upgrades to college facilities and resourcing over the years including BBQ’s and lighting at the college rodeo arena, new equipment for the sporting department and funding for the Rodeo Club to ensure students are able to travel and practice at the Great Western Hotel every week.
A courtesy bus will be operating from St Brendan’s College Rodeo to the Pacific Hotel at the conclusion of the event. Please note that there aren’t any camping facilities available and no eskies are allowed at the event.
St Brendan’s College sincerely acknowledges the support of event sponsors: Barlows Earthmoving, Coal Train, JRT, NRG, Pacific Hotel, Spotless Catering, DC Motors Rockhampton, Jett Building and Construction, Kennas Accountants, Keppel Kitchens, Newtech, Office National, Channel Nine and Triple M for making the event possible.
