THE McCamley family, Palmal, Dingo, are making quite the name for themselves in Central Queensland, after taking out the most successful exhibitor trophy three times out of the last four years at the Central Queensland Carcase Classic.
The McCamley’s took out a raft of prizes on the night, including second place in class three (grassfed single steer or heifer), second and third places in class four (pen of three steers or heifers, grassfed), reserve champion grassfed carcase (heifer), most even pen (heifers, 1.5kg), and reserve champion grassfed pen (steers).
QUICK QUOTE:
It's wonderful because we're mostly known for our stud cattle, but with a major commercial operation as well it's great to be recognised.
The family operate over three properties with 12,200 hectares of mostly buffel country, with a herd of 3000 head.
While the main focus is their Brahman stud, they also have 100 registered Brangus females and an EU accredited commercial operation.
Mrs McCamley said with the stud’s cull cattle making up the commercial herd, it was great to see the wins at the carcase competition.
”It was amazing,” she laughed.
“It's wonderful because we're mostly known for our stud cattle, but with a major commercial operation as well it's great to be recognised.
“People buying bulls can see that we are doing things well commercially.
“It means a lot to us.”
The operation is run as a family, with Mrs and Mr McCamley operating alongside their three sons; Ed, Will, and Tim, who are all heavily involved in the business.
Aside from the most successful exhibitor title, the family’s biggest win was the award for the most even pen.
The winning pen was pen 11 from class four; a pen of Brahman-cross heifers.
The pen, weighing 370.5kg, 369.5kg, and 371kg, received five points for pen evenness, and a total of 397.25 points.
