THE Rockhampton Grammar School has collaborated with Liecht’s CIA, Landmark, Dalgety Animal Health and CQ Helicopters on a farm safety initiative for Central Queensland producers.
The supporters have provided to students a new ramp and crush that will enable hands-on learning to improve on farm safety.
“We are very appreciative of the opportunities provided to RGS students by our partners in this project,” Grammar school Head of Agriculture Hardy Manser said.
“With only 3 per cent of the Australian workforce working in agriculture, but the industry accounting for over 30 per cent of workplace fatalities, workplace safety is paramount to the RGS Agricultural programme and our families.
“We are working hard to immerse our students in best practice methodologies, and these resources are invaluable in helping achieve this aim.”
It is also paramount that producers advocate a clear animal welfare message.
“This is why we deliver both workplace health and safety training to our students as well as a clear focus on animal welfare as a part of production enterprises in our courses and these facilities go a long way to support this best practice,” he said.
More than 60 students are enrolled in the RGS Certificate III in Agriculture, and a large number of RGS students from prep to Year12 participate at the Port Curtis Campus each year.
