I’m looking at the use of Machine Learning techniques as a decision tool to unlock the potential of Agricultural Big-Data.
- Stirling Roberton.
Stirling Roberton isn’t afraid of hard work.
Born and raised on a farm in Kilcoy, the 23 year-old knows first-hand the struggles facing families who choose a life on the land.
“I grew up on a beef property in a single parent family, so there were always pressures to make ends meet,” Stirling said.
His determination to improve life for farmers is what inspired Stirling to study at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) – the only university in Australia offering a degree in Agricultural Engineering.
“I began my Agricultural Engineering degree in 2012, straight after graduating high school. I was lucky enough to receive the Vice-Chancellor’s Principal's Recommendation Scholarship which encouraged me to start study right away,” he said.
Stirling graduated in 2015 and went on to study a PhD in Precision Agriculture.
“I’m looking at the use of Machine Learning techniques as a decision tool to unlock the potential of Agricultural Big-Data,” he said.
“It’ll help reduce risks for farmers who’ll have to make fewer decisions; its an area of research that will have continued focus heading into the future.”
Stirling believes he can change the face of farming as we know it.
