Last week there were two ACA youth camps held in Queensland. The small community of Eumamurrin was buzzing with the arrival of 20 children for the youth camp facilitated by Jane Lee and Shirley Lang. The cattle used over the two days were donated by Colin and Deborah Walsh, Roma, and the cartage donated by Henry Livestock. Throughout the two days the children covered cattle work, dry work and the safety aspects of campdrafting including positioning of the horse and beast.
The Twin Hills youth camp was held in conjunction with their annual Gidgee Draft, where at the end of the camp the children can put all that they have learnt into practice. The youth camp was well attended with 57 children being instructed by a number of respected campdrafters. They covered wet and dry work, horse health and even got experience using a mechanical cow.
The opportunity exists for committees to host their own ACA youth camp, where participants can learn about campdrafting in a fun and safe manner. Contact the ACA office for more information.
