At Toowoomba, the first weekly cattle sale of the week in Queensland, selling agents, Elders and Landmark reported an increase of 340 head on last week to yard 1044. Agents reported a fair panel of buyers present, however not all were operating. Young lightweight yearling steers and heifers to restockers met strong competition with average prices dearer.
Medium and heavyweight yearling feeder steers could not maintain last week’s rates and sold to rates 10-14c/kg less than last week. The quality of cows lifted on last week and sold to dearer rates. Best heavy steers sold to 290.2c.
Roma combined agents yarded 8985 cattle for this week’s store sale with 4566 steers, 3937 heifers, 460 cows and 22 cows and calves to make up the total. A highlight of this week’s Roma sale will be the quality draft of Kindee Pastoral Co weaners.
Ryan Dellit, Graham Henderson & Co, Dalby, reported a sale of 6089 cattle last week. The market sold to cheaper rates across the board, but in saying this, returns were still very favourable Dalby agents expect to yard more than 5000 this week.

David Friend, Nowlan Stock and Station, Killarney, gave me an update on the Warwick and Southern Downs area. He reported the weekly cattle and sheep sales have maintained a strong market trend. Rainfall has been good over the Southern Downs area with winter pastures and cereal crops doing well across the region. David advised that Nowlan Stock and Station will be one of the agents holding the first Australian White Ram Sale at the Stanthorpe Showgrounds on September 1.
