TRYING to pick between watching the rugby or heading to the races is the same dilemma as choosing between hard or soft tacos.
But just like the famous TV advertisement, this weekend Roma is having both.
The first Country Racing Winter Carnival will kick off this Saturday with the Rugby Race Day at Bassett Park which will see both racing and footy action by the track.
The day will kick off at 10am with a Queensland Reds Clinic for the youngsters followed by an Under 18s local game at 11am.
Lunch with the Reds will take place at noon along with the racing program and the Rugby Womens 7s games played in between.
At 3.30pm the new look Cunnamulla Dingos, who returned to the footy field earlier this year for the first time in almost 20 years, will make their Roma debut in a 10s match.
They will be followed by the Condamine Cods vs Roma Echidnas A Grade match at 4pm with celebrations to continue into the night.
The race day is one of three events for Roma as part of the new winter racing carnival which will include Roma Cities Rugby League Races on July 15 and finish with a TAB meet, Footy & Fillies Day on July 29.
The Footy & Fillies Day will also include the final of the Roads to Roma competition as part of a new Queensland Racing series with winners from meets including Toowoomba, Cunnamulla, Barcaldine and St George invited.
No race day is complete without Fashions on the Field but Roma Turf Club secretary Jackie Erickson said it wasn’t for traditional attire.
“We have a pretty strong Fashion on the Field competition that will be interesting and very specialised dressing for that day,” she said.
“Don’t come along in high heals and fascinators expecting to take it out because it’s actually judged on appropriateness for rugby as well.”
