Toowoomba livestock agents reported a lighter yarding of 750 cattle this week with very few bullocks or heavy steers penned.
Steers to feed were quoted as dearer with lightweight weaners selling to a firm market.
With seasonal conditions tightening over much of Queensland and no imminent prospect of rain, producers continue to offload, albeit at very good values.
Roma agents have penned 9500 cattle for this week’s sale. Brad Neven, Watkins & Co, Roma said the sale had started off well with weaner steers selling up to 410c/kg, with many attractive lines still to be sold.
Roma will have another strong yarding next Tuesday with 1700 Kindee weaners booked.
Paul Holm, Elders Livestock sales manager for Queensland, rang this week to explain a few facts about the new Biosecurity Plans.
Paul said that even though the dates for completion have been moved back it is still a priority and needs to be completed sooner rather than later.
Simply fill out the relevant Biosecurity template and file it ready to produce if requested.
When renewing your LPA accreditation after October 1, you will be required to complete two online modules which include a requirement of a biosecurity plan.
Paul said Elders would conduct workshops on the biosecurity plans at various branches over the coming weeks.
My wife Linda and I attended a delightful evening reminiscing with the Clark family and friends at Explorer’s Inn, Roma on Saturday marking Allen Clark’s 80th birthday.
I first met Allen when I arrived in Roma and worked as his agent. Allen has a long standing connection with Roma.
His parents, Arch and Tops Shilliday came to Echo in 1946 and were followed shortly by his grandparents, FA and Mrs Ada Allen, who sold Stanbroke and bought Euthulla.
Allen and his wife, Barb hosted the evening which was made special by the attendance of all their children, partners and grandchildren.
After a relaxed photo session at Moorelands Bush Nursery in the afternoon, the family were joined at dinner by Allen’s siblings, Margaret Walker of Toowoomba, formerly of Roma, Sue Montagu of Beerwah and Ross Shilliday of the Gold Coast. Other guests included Tony and Glenda Garland, Yingerbay, Roma, Jim and Annie Titmarsh, Hay, Roma, Peter and Sue Joliffe, Walhallow, Amby, Huck and Helen Allen from Mountain Cottage, Roma.
Some guests travelled from as far as Denver, Colorado to join in the celebrations as well as the Jenkins from Moree and the Shirleys from Kilcoy.
Allen has a history of being involved with radio station 4ZR and the Roma Show and has also been an accomplished pilot.
