The Story family situated at Slygo Station, Jericho are no strangers to hard work.
In addition to running their successful goat meat breeding operation at Slygo, Kyley and Shane Story run a grocery store in Sapphire and have operated a fencing business Story’s Contracting for more than 30 years.
In October last year the Story’s won the contract to erect a two and a half metre high, five and a half kilometre long chain wire security fence to kangaroo-proof the Longreach airport.
When it came time to purchase the steel for the project, Kyley said she only had one person in mind.
“We’ve been buying our fencing supplies from Cec Fox at Rural Steel Supplies (RSS) for many years, and we’ve always enjoyed a great working relationship with him,” she said.
“Cec offers us very good prices for what are very high quality steel products, and he’s always been very honest and supportive.”
After completing the airport job on December 24 – which involved the use of 40 tonnes of product purchased through RSS – the Story’s again went through RSS to get their materials for another major contract they’ve recently started work on.
“On June 12 we started on the 2718 metre-long security fence for the Longreach solar farm, which we should complete in two and a half months.
“We recently received a large potion of the 40 tonnes of steel materials we need for the current project from RSS. That’s another great thing with Cec, his freight company is always very reliable, our goods always arrive on time.
Kyley said wild dog fencing jobs at Arno, Isisford, and Strathdarr and Manningham, Longreach, for John and Elizabeth Beattie, and for Kinnon and Co, Longreach, will be up next on their slate after the solar farm work is done, all of which will be completed using RSS products.
Cec Fox said he’s been extremely happy supporting Story’s Contracting through RSS and has enjoyed assisting them with selecting the correct materials for their jobs through the years.
Cec set up RSS eight years after retiring from the steel supplies Industry which he excelled in for 44 years.
“It only took me six months to get bored after I retired so I thought I’d create RSS and share my knowledge of the steel industry with farmers and graziers,“ he said.
Cec’s knowledge covers the use of steel in all rural applications and he supplies a vast range of products including: RHS tube; beams; second grade steel; pipe; reinforcing mesh; cattle panels; gates; reinforcing bar; sheep panels; roofing; purlins; fencing; and cattle and sheep handling equipment.
