EIGHTEEN head of cattle had to be destroyed after the rear trailer of the truck they were travelling in rolled last Friday, the first of two major accidents in the western downs area over the weekend.
Police were called to the Warrego Highway west of Wallumbilla about 3pm where the rear trailer had unhitched from the two-trailer truck loaded with cattle.
The driver was uninjured but 18 head of cattle had to be killed.
Another truck accident occurred about 11.30am on Saturday when a semi trailer rolled on the Leichardt Highway north of Wandoan.
A 55-year-old Mackay man was airlifted to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical conditioner.
