WHO says size matters when it comes to led steer competitions.
The common theory in the led steer ring that big is best was busted at the Chinchilla Show today when the Franz family, Jandowae won the champion led steer or heifer competition with their light weight steer, Showtime.
With 43 exhibits across four classes the title was hotly contested but it was the winner of the under 350kg class who proved too good for its other competitors, some more than 550kg.
It was just the first outing for Showtime who was purchased from a Speckle Park sale at Scone, NSW.
He even beat his stable mate, the winner of the over 550kg class, which owner Glen Franz thought was a certain winner.
The Franz family had 16 led steers at the competition, some brought and some bred from their own operation where they cross European bulls over British females.
Mr Franz said the steer had lived up to his name.
The other big winner in the stud cattle ring was Greg Kroll, Dalmore, Chinchilla who won the supreme exhibit of the show with his bull Oakdale Longbow.
The 26-month-old Santa Gerturdis bull took out the same title last year as a junior show bull and will now be retained as a future sire for the Kroll family.
Mr Kroll said it was his breed character that he admired most.
