Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 1547 cattle consisting of 794 prime cattle and 739 store cattle.
The prime cattle consisted of 293 bullocks, 73 heifers, 361 cows and 67 bulls, while store cattle yarded consisted of 462 steers, 164 heifers, 14 cows and calves and 113 mickey bulls.
Prime cattle comprised of some good lines of finished bullocks and steers with cows presented in mixed quality and condition.
Competition was again good with meatworks, feedlotters and exporters all in attendance.
The yarding was drawn from Normanton, Georgetown, Mt Surprise, Hughenden, Winton, Julia Creek, Mount Isa, local and coastal areas.
Bullocks were quoted similar, heifers were 10-15c dearer and cows were 1-2c dearer on last week’s rates.
Prime quotes saw trade steers topped at 292c/kg, sold on account of SA Grazing, Hopewell Park, Torrens Creek. that weighed 448kg to return $1307 per head.
Best priced trade heifers were presented on account of Atkinson Pastoral Co, Katandra Station, Hughenden which made 264c/kg to weigh 485kg and return $1281 per head.
The top pen of cows were sold by G & C Connolly, Blanncourt Station, Georgetown, for 235c/kg and weighed 537kg to return $1263 per head.
Bulls sold on account of A Young, Georgetown, topped at 281c/kg and weighed 680kg to return $1912 per head.
Store cattle were made up of some good lines of steers and mixed lines of heifers. A good gallery of buyers were on hand with mixed competition across the lines.
A pen of three steers sold on account of A Young, Georgetown, made 389c/kg and weighed 186kg and realised $726 per head.
A line of steers on account of Lawn Hill & Riversleigh Pastoral Holding Co, Mount Isa, topped at 340c/kg to average 316c/kg to weigh 384kg and return $898 per head.
A good pen of nine heifers sold by Emma Crouch, Woodstock, made 293c/kg, weighed 174kg and returned a good average of $511 per head.
12 cows and 12 calves sold by A Young, Georgetown, returned $1400 per unit.
