Mareeba combined agents penned a total of 350 head at this week’s prime and store cattle sale on May 16.
One major export processor with a smaller group of local wholesale processors competed on a slightly smaller yarding of mostly aged cows and bulls.
Local trade ox sold to rates well back on last week’s best of 278c/kg down 18c. Local trade heifers sold to a slightly lower rate back 5c on the previous week’s top of 260c. Wholesale cows were back by 29c on the best of last week.
Export ox gained 5c, cows sold to rates well back on last week’s top of 213c back by 16c/kg. Slaughter bulls sold to 9c/kg dearer, they were mostly heavy culled herd bulls from the Chillagoe area.
Store cattle numbers were well back this week, however a pen of young steers sold very well reaching a very good 363c/kg.
