THE Eulo Queen Hotel was the place to be this afternoon as locals celebrated the long awaited return of rain to the town.
By 3pm today 25mm of rain had been recorded in Eulo with no signs of slowing down.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology at 6pm, Thargomindah had received 10mm and 12mm at Charleville while locals in Quilpie reported it had been “raining all afternoon with a storm”.
While one inch of rain might not seem too significant to some, for Eulo locals it was a sight they hadn’t seen in months.
But it couldn’t have come at a more inconvenient time given hundreds of caravans had travelled hundreds of kilometres to attend the Music in the Mulga event located 15km out of town at David and Carmel Meurant’s property, Wandilla station.
Due to the wet conditions the red dirt road leading into the property was too boggy meaning many couldn’t access the grounds and were waiting it out in the town.
Mike Oxchuge, Darwin, Gary Hodge, Victoria, and Bradley Reardon, Darwin, were attending the event for the first time and said they must have brought the rain with them from Victoria.
Eulo Queen Hotel owner Janelle Jackson said any rain was valuable to the south west area.
“We haven’t had any decent rain for five years,” she said.
“Christmas time was the last time we had an inch.”
The Music in the Mulga event runs until Sunday is headlined by Sara Storer and Beccy Cole.
