Strong support from commercial cattle producers pushed a Glenisa bull to a top price of $17,000.
A total of 42 bulls sold for an impressive 100 per cent clearance rate to make a sale average of $5797.
CPC Pastoral Co, Allawah Station, Biloela paid $17,000 for the top priced bull Glenisa Leichardt L051, who was a 19-month-old bull weighing 746kg and sired by DSK RR Feel Good.
CPC Pastoral went on to purchase a total of four bulls for an average of $9250 to put into the company’s commercial breeding program.
The second top price bull was Glenisa Leeton L013, also sired by DSK RR Feel Good, and went to Wythburn Partnership at Taroom for $12,000.
Glendara Partnership, Wallangarra purchased the third top priced bull for $10,000.
The Hartley family from Injune, who purchased a large number of bulls at previous Glenisa sales, were back and purchased a total of five bulls to average $4700.
Stuart Wallace, Wallace Cattle Co, Brigalow purchased three bulls to average $5833 and will put the bulls over his Brahman females.
Glenisa Angus stud owner Ced Wise said a large majority of the buyers were from commercial enterprises and one stud traveled from Cygent in Tasmania for a replacement bull after he purchased one at the first Glenia bull sale.
“I’m extremely happy with the number of repeat buyers and one new buyer who helped the sale tremendously,” Mr Wise said.
“Most of our local buyers are smaller cattleman and they can’t afford the bigger prices, so we try and supply to this market.
“We try and keep them quiet so we cull a lot of bulls and the bulls we present are as quiet as we can get them and that means we have smaller numbers of bulls to offer and if our prices are to high we can’t supply our local clients.
“We aim to produce bulls with good thickness and plenty of muscle without huge frame plus smooth, black coats.
“We supply a lot of bulls to the Glen Innes, Killarney, Casino, Warwick regions and then jump to Roma, Injune, Taroom and up to Rockhampton.
‘We try and keep a reasonable amount of bone to go over the Brahman cows, a lot of thickness and as soft as we can get them without being a huge frame.”
Mr Wise said the recent results are helping the stud achieve its goals.
