Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 2119 cattle on Wednesday consisting of 1103 prime cattle and 1016 store cattle.
The prime cattle consisted of 93 bullocks, 67 heifers, 893 cows and 50 bulls.
The store cattle consisted of 468 steers, 500 heifers and 48 cows and calves.
Geaney's Real Estate and Livestock spokesperson said the prime section mostly consisted of prime cows which varied in quality.
“Bullocks were quoted 5¢ easier, heifers were 5-10¢ easier with cows selling to similar rates as last week,” he said.
“There was good competition from meat works and feedlots across all lines.
“The yarding was drawn from Gumlu, Ingham, Townsville, Prairie, Woodstock, Torrens Creek, Georgetown, Townsville, Ayr, Croydon, Chillago, Cloncurry, Richmond, Bowen and local and coastal areas.”
Prime quotes saw bullocks top at 272c/kg for five ox sold on account of RB & DA Von Wald that weighed 594kg returning $1616 per head.
Best priced trade heifers were presented on account of RC Flute, Chatfield, Richmond, which made 282c/kg to weigh 455kg and return $1284 per head.
The top pen of cows were sold by Pajingo Pastoral Company, Pajingo, Charters Towers, for 234c/kg and weighed 564kg to return $1322 per head.
Bulls sold on account of DJ & SM Hartwell, topped at 293c/kg and weighed 480kg to return $1407 per head.
A pen of five feeder steers sold by WPX & JS Ryan, Scoria, Mt Garnett, weighed 446kg making 303c/kg and return $1352 per head.
“The store section consisted of good lines of young steers and good quality heifers in very good condition,” Geaney’s spokesperson said.
“Steers up to 320kg increased in value this week along with heifers over 320kg while steers over the 320kg and younger heifers under 320kg saw slight decreases in value.”
A line of 15 steers sold by R Colls, Gumlu, topped at 368c/kg and weighed 143kg and realised $527 per head.
A good pen of 21 heifers on account of R Colls, Gumlu made 298c/kg, weighed 146kg and returned a good average of $437 per head.
12 cows and calves sold on account of LA Young, Lone Gully, Georgetown, returned $1320 per unit.
The next prime and store sale will be held on May 3 at Dalrymple Saleyards, Charters Towers.
