DOUGLAS Rodgers has officially stepped up as the LNP candidate for Rockhampton, and despite no election date set it appeared campaigning had begun.
With a State election expected in the next 12 months, Deputy Leader of the Opposition Deb Frecklington is officially on the campaign trail – and after starting in Gracemere yesterday, will make her way west next week heading to Glenden, Nebo, Moranbah, Dysart, and Clermont with Shadow Minister for Agriculture Dale Last.
Mr Rodgers said he has always had a passion for agriculture and the Rockhampton region, after growing up in the bush.
“I’ve had a life-long interest in politics and particularly this side of politics, I was born and bred in the bush,” he said.
“I’ve spent a fair bit of my adult life chasing sheep and cattle around and have done a fair bit of media work.”
Mr Rodgers will run against Minister for Agriculture Bill Byrne for the seat, and said he does not foresee and election campaign of big economic spending.
“This election is not going to be won by throwing money around,” he said.
“This is about how we do business.”
