The crowd of spectators erupted into applause as Summer Creek Cadbury was awarded Toowoomba Royal Show’s small cattle interbreed champion bull.
The 11-month-old Dexter bull is owned by the Pla family, Beaudesert and was paraded by Sophie Pla during the cattle judging competition.
“We own Cadbury’s sire, Summer Creek Black Sabbath, who has had a successful show career including a grand champion win at the Queensland Dexter Show in 2009,” Ms Pla said.
The small interbreed champion bull was out of Summer Creek Black Pearl cow and won calf champion in the Dexter breed judging at Toowoomba Royal Show this year before going on to win grand Champion Dexter cattle exhibit.
“It was an amazing surprise to win small interbreed champion and very exciting for our family’s Dexter cattle stud,” Ms Pla said.
“It’s Summer Creek Cadbury’s first cattle show and we’re really exciting for our bull to do so well.”
This year’s Toowoomba Royal Show small interbreed female champion was Margo Hayes’ 18-month-old Vitulus Lollipop Red heifer.
“Lollipop Red was the calf on last year’s grand champion cow here at Toowoomba Show with the cow and calf also winning the small interbreed championship last year,” Ms Hayes said.
“It is Lollipop’s second cattle show on her own and she won junior champion and grand champion in the Ausline breed judging and now the small interbreed female championship.”
The heifer was out of the dam Vitulus Gorgeous Red and has just been joined to a sire.
“Lollipop Red has wonderful length and lovely maternal traits so I feel she will grow into a very nice cow when she has her own calf,” Ms Hayes said.
