A landholder in north Queensland is on a mission to locate her five horses that disappeared during Tropical Cyclone Debbie.
On a 55 acre cattle property at Homebush, south west of Mackay, Shelly Beckham is calling for help to locate her horses that went missing in floodwaters.
“We back onto Sandy Creek and it broke its banks Wednesday morning (March 29). By Wednesday afternoon we thought the floodwaters wouldn’t come any higher, as it reached the 1974 floodmark, but it kept coming and engulfed our whole property,” Ms Beckham said.
“I have never seen it like this before, it all happened so quickly and unfortunately my six horses were in the back paddock.
“Half of the cattle disappeared but have slowly made their way back, but five of my six horses are still missing.”
The keen showjumper was thankful to have found one horse. Ms Beckham’s two year old was located three kilometres downstream from her property.
“Considering how strong and fast the water was flowing he would have been washed down there,” she said.
“But I still don’t know where my main showjumping horse is.”
Having too big of an area to cover on foot, Shelly jumped in a helicopter to try and locate her missing horses, without luck.
“I have been door knocking and I am now calling on the community to help me find my horses,” Ms Beckham said.
