Maranoa residents are monitoring local creek levels after falls of up to 100mm across the region overnight and this morning.
The Maranoa Regional Council has advised that the Bungil Creek at the Joe Orr Bridge at 8am was 2.71 metres and rising due to local water run-off.
Council expects rises in the Bungil Creek system late today and there is already localised flooding being experienced in lower lying areas of Roma although it’s understood no homes are at risk.
Sand bags are available by contacting the SES on 132 500.
Local livestock agent, Cyril Close, TopX Roma, received 60mm on his property north of Roma overnight and said he’d also heard reports of 40mm at Surat and 60mm north of Yuleba.
Mr Close said the rain spin-off from ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie had already kicked the cattle market across eastern states.
“I just spoke to an agent at Gunnedah this morning and he said the first pen of black steers made 456c/kg,” he said.
“There’s a big weaner sale in Blackall today and it should go off well too. We’re going to see a lot of competition from NSW buyers up here in Roma next week.”
Roma residents are advised to stay clear of flooded streets and roads.
These roads include:
- Miscamble Street (Ashburns Crossing) - Closed
- Miscamble Street West - Open - Water over road
- Miscamble Street East - Open - Water over road at Long Drain
- Feather Street - Open - Water over road between rail line and Mayne Street
Residents are advised to keep calm but remain alert throughout the morning.
