With the saleyard laneways thick with mud, rubberboots and smiles were very popular at the Highlands Droughtmaster Sale at Clermont. The annual sale reached a top price of $38,000 twice.
With a definite positive vibe to the sale after recent rain events, the stands held many eager to secure quality genetics along with commercially focused traits in the lineup of bulls on offer.
Redskin Droughtmasters were the first to top the sale with their star lot Redskin Harley (S) D5 reaching the $38,000 tag quickly and snapped up by Warren and Carolyn Kenny, Wajatryn Droughtmasters, Gayndah. The 28-month-old bull by Dalmally Yale (H) D3 caught the attention of the Kenny family whilst on a recent property visit to the Rutherford’s property after they missed out on another Redskin bull at an auction last year. Warren Kenny said he was very pleased they were able to secure this new sire for their stud and said that Harley had tremendous beef and good bone, both attributes that they look for first in a bull.
The Kenny family have purchased bulls from Redskin before and particularly like the Rutherford family’s genetics.
“They have a very strong commercial focus and breed the type of cattle that appeals to us,” Mr Kenny said.
As first time buyers at the Clermont sale, Warren and Carolyn decided to make the trip after seeing the strong draft of bulls from Redskin and to tie in with a visit to family in the area.
