HEAVY rain could not stop the Elders CQ Cattle and Trade Show last week, with locals coming along to the inaugural event.
The grand champion pen award was taken out by Denis Clair, Glenerin, Goovigen, who had 32 number six Droughtmaster steers at the sale.
Mr Clair runs 1000 Droughtmasters at his 2630 hectare breeding and fattening property.
“These are only here because of the dry, if we’d gotta this rain we’re getting now a bit over a fortnight ago they probably wouldn’t have been here,” he said.
Mr Clair’s steers sold for 342.2 c/kg and weighed 345.5kg.
A great run of heavy feeder steers in the 400-520kg weight range sold to a top of 320.2c/kg.
Steers in the 300 to 400kg weight category sold to a top of 342.2 c/kg.
An excellent draft of weaner steers met strong demand from local and southern backgrounding operators and sold to a top of 380.2 c/kg.
Heifers in the 400 to 520kg category met solid feedlot demand from two Darling Downs operators and sold to a top of 310 c/kg.
An excellent draft of weaner heifers were presented and met fierce competition from two southern operators along with a number of local backgrounders.
Heifers in this weight range sold to a top of 336.2 c/kg.
