MARIA Boddenberg arrived in Australia from Germany in September, and the backpacker said her experience in the agricultural industry has been nothing but positive.
Ms Boddenberg was working with the ground crew at Kerry Downs and Quingilli cotton farms, owned by Bradley and Renee Anderson.
She said despite hearing about the backpacker tax issue before arriving, the political fight was not going to impact her working holiday.
“I don’t mind paying tax here, I use the infrastructure as well as all the Australian people do, so it’s just fair that I would pay tax too,” she said.
“I’m paying 15 per cent, which is quite fair I think.”
Ms Boddenberg said after travelling the east coast of Australia, she then worked on a vineyard in Victoria, and travelled to Tasmania and Melbourne before returning to Queensland to work on the cotton farms.
“I needed to improve my English, and I picked the country with the best weather,” she said.
“In Germany it would be about ten degrees at the moment.
“I love it, I’m pretty sure that I don’t want to do this for my whole life, but it’s a really interesting experience because usually I work in an office, so I don’t see a lot of sun.”
